Measure
The first thing to tackle is perhaps the Carbon Footprint of the business. This is done by looking at Scope 1 , 2 and 3 emissions in your business
Scope 1 – Direct emissions from burning Fuel and Company Vehicles
Scope 2 – Indirect emissions from Fuel Usage at the business
Scope 3 – All emissions not covered by scope 1 and 2. This can include, business travel, staff commuting and supply chain emissions
These can easily be converted into KgCo2e figures that will be used to work out the carbon footprint of your business. DEFRA issues and updates guidance on how to calculate emissions based on agreed conversion factors. This will for example give values for each KWH of energy or litre of petrol used for different vehicle types in the business to give a KgCo2e figure that can be used to calculate the Carbon Footprint of your business.
SME can provide a simple spreadsheet for this to make the calculation much simpler. Please contact us for more details.
Part of the commitment is also to measure the companies social and governance frameworks and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) provide a good framework for this. Please contact us for more information on this or indeed there are specialist companies out there who can help such as https://tbl-services.com/
